Summary of Events

Regime forces committed one of the deadliest massacres since the start of the uprising. More than 250 people in the besieged village of Tremseh in the suburb of Hama were massacred at the same time as Russia announced it will veto any chapter 7 referral in the upcoming UNSC vote. The village was first shelled from a far distance for several hours amid an electricity and communication blackout. Security forces then invaded the town and began killing people randomly including women and children.

In the capital, regime forces targeted a protest in the neighbourhood of Barzeh and shelled it along with the neighbourhood of Kafarsouseh. Mortar shells killed 12 and injured several more.

Pro-Assad Alawite militias opened fire on several busses carrying civilians from the Sunni village of Kafaraya in the province of Idlib in retaliation for heavy losses they suffered after clashing with the Sunni armed resistance groups.

Regime forces killed more than 328 people today. Close to 250 died in the Hama suburb of Tremseh, 23 in the province of Homs, 15 in the province of Idlib, 12 in Damascus, 10 in the Damascus suburbs of Zabadani, Daraya, Bait Sahem, Bibila, Douma, Ain Tarma, Harasta and Qutayfa, six in the city of Deir Azzour as a result of the heavy shelling, five in the province of Daraa, five in the town of Sheikh Maskin, as well as three in the suburb of Aleppo and one in Qunaitara.

Assad’s military forces continued their attacks on civilian populated areas in the Aleppo suburbs of Kafar Hamza, Heraytan, Ezaz and Tal Refaat, the villages of Jabal Akrad, Kasatel and Sakyat Kart in the province of Latakia, in the neighbourhoods of Sultaniya, Jobar, Baba Amr, Jouret Sheyhah, Qarabis and Khaldiya in the city of Homs and in the towns of Qasir, Rastan, Houleh and Talbiseh in the province of Homs.

Thousands of protesters took to the streets across the country in condemnation of the regime’s crimes and in solidarity with the village of Tremseh.
