Summary of Events

The Syrian army laid siege to the town of Kafar Shams and has been intensely shelling residential areas with tanks, artillery and AA guns amid a telecommunications and power blackout. Regime militiamen raided the town and have been field-executing many civilians. The military campaign commenced after a massive defection in an army barrack took place near the town, where soldiers were able to secure heavy weaponry before fleeing.

Regime  forces killed at least 104 today; 42 fell in the province of Idlib as the Syrian army shelled the towns of Sarja, Khan Sabil, Saraqeb, and Habit, 15 in the suburbs of Damascus as the shelling continued on the suburbs of Deir Asafir, Drousha, Hamouriya, and Damir, 14 in Deir Azzour as the military campaign continued against the city, ten in the province of Homs as regime forces continued to shell the cities of Homs and Houleh, and eight in Qamishli as the Syrian army executed eight defected soldiers.

The regime’s violations continued across the country, as Assad’s forces shelled the towns of Marba and Dael and the refugee camp in the city of Daraa, the village of Jabal Akrad in the province of Latakia, and the cities of Halfaya, Atareb and Hayan and the villages of Kafar Karmin and Babka with artillery, air force, and missiles. It also opened fire in the town of Jassem and conducted arbitrary arrests and sweeps in the city of Hama.

Media sources reported that three Iranian gas carriers have sailed to Syria with gas shipments; the first is scheduled to reach the port of Banyas on Tuesday, while another one should arrive later this week. According to the same sources, two of the carriers, named al-Ameen and Alfan have already crossed the Egyptian Suez Canal.
