Summary of Events

Two explosions in the neighbourhoods of Jamileh and Furqan shook the city of Aleppo, resulting in the injury of dozens. The explosions were followed by two more in the neighbourhoods of Qaser and Sakhour. No party claimed responsibility for the explosions yet.

UN observers visited the Damascus suburb of Daraya. Security forces raided the suburb and shelled it with tanks and AA guns as soon as the Observers left. Another group of Observers visited Aleppo University where students demonstrated and held a sit-in. security forces opened fire at students to disperse them and arrested dozens.

The regime’s violations to the ceasefire continued, as its forces raided the city of Banyas in the province of Tartus amid heavy fire and arbitrary arrests and sweeps, shelled and opened heavy fire in the neighbourhood of Joura in the city of Deir Azzour, raided the towns of Maarba and Jassem amid random heavy fire and shelled the cities of Lajat and Bosr al-Harir in the province of Daraa. Regime forces also opened heavy fire in the neighbourhood of Manshiya in the city of Daraa in an attempt to break the sit-in and general strike held in protest to the kidnapping of a 16-year-old girl.

Assad’s forces killed at least 23 today; 12 fell in the capital and its suburbs as regime forces opened fire at a funeral procession in the neighbourhood of Maidan and raided and shelled the suburbs of Erbin, Douma, Qatana, and Daraya, while nine fell in the province of Homs as the Syrian army shelled the town of Qalat Hosun and the neighbourhoods of Khaldiya, Old City, and Jouret Sheyah in the city of Homs.

Tehran announced it will begin exporting electricity to Syria and Lebanon through Iraq starting next week. According to the agreement signed between the Ministers of Energy and Electricity of Iran, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq who met in Tehran, Iran plans to export 50 megawatts of electricity initially, with the supply eventually rising up to 200 megawatts.
