Summary of Events

Regime forces intensified military attacks against the armed resistance groups taking position in the capital Damascus, raiding the neighbourhoods of Qadam, Asaly, Tadamon, Naher Aisha, Daf Ashoq and the Palestinian refugee camps of Yarmouk and Palestine and the suburbs of Douma, Hamouriya, Maliha, Damir, and Moadamiya, following heavy shelling that caused severe damage to many houses and left many civilians dead and wounded.

The commander of the political security branch in Damascus and Syria’s ambassador to Belarus confirmed their defection to the opposition today, Meanwhile, more than 68 military officers defected within the last week, according to FSA sources.

Regime forces heavily bombarded the town of Rastan in the province of Homs causing severe damages to the civilians’ houses, killing entire families and injuring many others.

Regime artillery bombarded the central prison in the city of Deir Azzour following heavy gunfire inside the prison that targeted prisoners who protested the regime’s crimes and demanded its downfall. Military forces imposed a siege on the prison to prevent rescue operations, leaving more than 30 dead and 140 severely injured.

Regime forces killed more than 80 people today. Fifteen died in the province of Homs as a result of the heavy shelling and raid campaigns in the neighbourhoods of Khaldiya, Baba Amr, Deir Baalba, Bab Houd in Homs and the provincial towns of Rastan, Houleh and Qasir. Three died in the province of Aleppo as a result of the violent military campaigns against the Aleppo suburbs of Ezaz and al-Bab. Eight were killed in the province of Deir Azzour because of the clashes with the armed resistance groups in the city of Deir Azzour and the provincial towns of Boukamal and Quriya. Four died in the province of Idlib because of the continued military campaigns that targeted the villages located at Jeser Shoghour and Jabal Zawiya districts and the town of Salqin. Two died in the province of Hama because of heavy shelling targeting the town of Madiq Fortress. Five died in the city of Daraa and its suburb of Baser Harir. A man died under torture in the city of Sweida and five unidentified bodies with clear torture marks were discovered in the Idlib suburb of Nairab.

Regime forces continued attacks on civilian areas in the Aleppo suburbs of Mayer, Ezaz, Jarables, Tal Refaat, Marea, Bayanoun, in the villages located at Jabal Akrad and Jabal Turcoman mountains in the suburb of Latakia, in the neighbourhoods of Jouret Sheyah, Qarabis, Jobar, Sultaniya and Baba Amr in Homs and in the towns of Talbiseh, Sa’an and Talkalakh in the province of Homs, in the neighbourhoods of central Daraa and Mahatta in the city of Daraa and the Daraa suburbs of Ghariya Sharqiya, Ma’raba, Dael and Bosra. Attacks also took place in the towns of Madiq Fortress and Karnaz in the province of Hama, in the neighbourhoods of Sheikh Yasin, Ommal, Hamidiya and Khasarat in the city of Deir Azzour and the towns of Quriya and Shahil in the province of Deir Azzour.

Heavy clashes occurred between armed resistance groups and regime forces in the province of Idlib, Aleppo, Daraa, Deir Azzour and Damascus, causing several deaths and injuries on both sides.
