Summary of Events

Regime forces, targeting armed resistance groups in the town of Hajar Aswad in Damascus, fired mortar shells into the town leaving two civilians dead and more than 12 others wounded. Meanwhile, tens of thousands of Palestinian and Syrian protesters joined the funeral processions of the Palestinians killed yesterday by security forces in the Yarmouk and Palestine refugee camps in Damascus. Protesters showed solidarity with the Syrian revolution, chanted slogans condemning the regime’s crimes and hailing the Free Syrian Army.

Two blasts shocked Hama province today when a car bomb exploded near a school in the neighbourhood of Karama leaving two schoolchildren dead and many others wounded. A similar incident took place near a military security branch in the town of Meharda, killing eight civilians and wounding many others.

Regime forces killed more than 60 people today. Ten died because of heavy shelling in the towns of Qasir, Rastan and Houleh in the province of Homs and its neighbourhoods of Baba Amr, Sultaniya and Jouret Sheyah. Eight died in the Damascus suburbs of Douma and Mleha. Eight armed rebels were killed in the Aleppo suburb of Tal Sallour on the Syrian-Turkish border. Seven were killed in the province of Deir Azzour because of heavy shelling targeting the neighbourhoods of Jbaila, Howayqa, Khasarat and Ommal. Five died in the province of Idlib as a result of the violent military campaigns launched against the villages of Ein Sheib and Rami and the town of Ma’arrat Noman. Twelve died in the province of Hama, one in the Daraa suburb of Herak and another in the suburb of Latakia.

Regime forces continued its violent attacks on civilian areas in the Aleppo suburbs of Menneg, Tal Refaat, Ezaz, Marea, Afrin, and Kafer Nouran, in the Damascus suburbs of Erbin, Douma, Saqba, Deir Assafir and Zabdin, in the villages located at Akrad and Turcoman Mountains, in the neighbourhoods of the Old City, Jobar, Qarabis, Ghanto, Khaldiya, Hamidiya in the city of Homs and the towns of Makramiya, Za’faraneh and Krak des Chevaliers in the province of Homs, in the Daraa suburbs of Yadouda, Heit, Dael, Ghariya Sharqiya, Taffas and Lajat and the neighbourhoods of Central Daraa and al-Sad Road in the city of Daraa, in the villages located at Jabal Zawiya and Jeser Shoghour districts in the province of Idlib, in the Deir Azzour suburbs of Basira, Zar, Shahil, Baqros, Mohasan and Bolel and its neighbourhood of Jbaila and Arfy.

Regime forces also launched a massive sweep and arrest campaign against several neighbourhoods and towns in the provinces of Aleppo, Damascus, Daraa, Hama, Idlib and Deir Azzour.

Heavy clashes took place in the province of Idlib when pro-Assad Shiite militias attacked the Sunni town of Bannesh and kidnapped some of its residents.
