Regime forces killed at least 52 people today; 18 fell in the province of Idlib and ten in the suburbs of Damascus, as regime forces continued their violation to Annan’s peace plan. Regime forces shelled the town of Haffe in the province of Latakia amid attempts to raid the town, the towns of Halfaya and Taybet Imam in the province of Hama, the towns and cities of Homs, Qalat Huson, Qasir, Rastan, and Houleh, the towns of Bosra Sham, Kafar Shamas and Tafas, and the cities of Khan Sheikhoun and Maaret Noman in the province of Idlib. Revolutionaries launched their campaign in Damascus as they clashed with regime forces in the neighbourhoods of Qabun, Qadam, Maidan, Kafarsouseh and Abbasiyin, leading to the raid and siege of these areas. Security forces opened fire in the neighbourhoods of Salhiya and Mazeh to disperse demonstrators. In the suburbs on the other hand, regime forces raided the suburbs of Mqailaibe and Bait Saham with armoured units amid heavy fire and arbitrary arrests and sweeps. Clashes took place in the suburb of Kafarbatna, while regime forces opened heavy fire in the suburbs of Kesweh and Harasta.
Massive demonstrations broke out across the country calling for the ouster of the regime and encouraging merchants of the country to boycott the regime and support the revolutionaries. The calls for support and solidarity took place after the merchants of Damascus went on a massive strike that included all the central markets of the capital and extended to the city of Aleppo and the suburbs of the capital.
According to SRCC sources, regime-affiliated Aleppean businessmen started buying grains all over Syria to control the supply of flour in the country by cutting off supplies from demonstrating areas. Many cities started forming councils to stop local producers from selling their agricultural products to outsiders which led to food distribution disputes and shortages.
