Summary of Events

Revolution Councils inside Syria established a temporary parliament composed of 120 members all residing inside Syria. The Parliament aims at creating a political umbrella body to lead the political and military grassroots movements in Syria. The Parliament will be cooperating with the other existing political and military opposition forces.

The UNHCR announced that the number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon has reached over 24,000; more than half of them have been registered so far. According to the UNHCR, most of the refugees are present in northern cities of Akkar and Tripoli and the Bikaa valley.

According to the UN, the number of international observers in Syria reached 40, out of which a few have been permanently stationed in Hama and Homs. The observers visited the city of Ariha in Idlib, the town of Bosra al-Sham in Daraa, and the city of Qasir in Homs where they witnessed regime forces opening fire at demonstrators.

The regime’s violations of Annan’s plan continued, as Assad’s forces opened heavy fire in the town of Naima and Malaiha Sharqiya in Daraa and the town of Kafarnabouda in Hama. They also conducted arbitrary arrests and sweeps in the Damascus suburb of Qataifa and the town of Quriya in Deir Azzour.

Assad’s forces killed at least 25; nine of them were killed in Aleppo as regime forces invaded the neighbourhood of Sakhour and the suburb of Qabbasin, eight in Damascus as regime forces invaded the neighbourhood of Barzeh, and six in Homs as the Syrian army shelled the neighbourhoods of Qosur, Baba Amr, Jobar, Basatin, the towns of Ghantou, Halmouz, and Qalat Huson. Regime forces also executed two defected soldiers in the town of Malaiha Gharbiya in the province of Daraa.

Demonstrations continued throughout the capital as thousands took to the streets in the neighbourhood of Kafarsouseh for the funeral processions of yesterday’s fallen heroes. Regime forces opened heavy fire to disperse the mourners and the demonstrators.
