Summary of Events
The Aleppo University management suspended all lectures and classes in all departments and faculties and evacuated the dorms of all residents. The management announced the decision before regime forces raided the dorms and arrested over a hundred and killed at least six. Aleppo University, the second largest university in the country, has been witnessing several demonstrations daily for over a month.
The UNSC observers visited the town of Saraqeb in Idlib, and the neighbourhood of Khaldiya in the city of Homs which regime forces continued to shell and open heavy fire at despite the presence of the observers.
The Assad regime continued to violate the terms of the ceasefire as it killed at least 32 today; 9 fell in Homs as the shelling continued to target the city and the villages of Qalat Hosun and al-Zara, 7 in Aleppo, and 6 in Hama. Meanwhile, regime militants kidnapped a bus in Homs that carried 11 workers from the village of Kiseen. Nothing has been heard of them yet.
Regime forces opened heavy fire in the city of Daraa and town of Dael, raided the village of Muhasan in Deir Azzour, and conducted arbitrary arrests and sweeps. They also raided the Maidan neighbourhood in Damascus, conducted arbitrary arrests and sweeps in the suburb of Douma, and shelled and opened heavy machinegun fire in the town of Damir.
In Idlib, regime forces conducted arbitrary arrests and sweeps amid heavy shooting in the town of Ain al-Hamra, and shelled the towns of Ariha and Maaret Noman, and the village of al-Rami in Jabal Zawiya.
Defections took place in the Qalamoun area in the capital resulting in clashes with regime forces. Assad’s militias in the town al-Bab in Aleppo sustained heavy damages inflicted by the revolutionaries in an ambush.
In the meantime, the peaceful demonstration movement continued to grow throughout the country, especially in Aleppo, as demonstrations broke out in the Justice Palace (central courtyard) and several central neighbourhoods, including the Meridian and Seif Eddin.
Human Rights Watch (HRW) accused regime forces of war crimes in the province of Idlib. The crimes included the execution of 95 civilians and the destruction of hundreds of houses within only two weeks. HRW prepared the report based on a field investigation conducted last month in the towns of Taftanaz, Saraqeb, Sarmin, Kaleli, and Hazano.
